On the back of every fragrance bottle is a list of instructions and precautions.
Please make certain that you read the information carefully prior to using your
fragrance lamp, and follow the safety precautions at the end of this page.
- Place your fragrance lamp on a flat, stable surface away from any flammable
materials. Do not place directly on a finished or wood surface.
Glass, marble and stoneware plates are recommended. On a personal
note, we hold the lamp over the bathroom sink to avoid potential spills.
- Remove the heavy decorative cap and the solid snuffer cap.
- Using the small funnel, fill your lamp with fragrance, no more than 2/3 full. Wipe lamp carefully
to clean any fragrance spills. Please note that your lamp will not function properly if it is overfilled.
You may add less, but never more than 2/3 full.
- Insert the wick stone assembly into your fragrance lamp. It should fit into the collar of the lamp
and be fully seated. Replace the solid snuffer cap. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for the wick stone to
absorb the fragrance before lighting.
- After 20 to 30 minutes remove the solid snuffer cap and light the wick stone. We recommend
using a fireplace style butane lighter which provides an ideal size flame to get your lamp started.
Please be aware that the flame will be 2 to 4 inches high and take necessary safety precautions.
Allow the flame to burn for 2 to 3 minutes. Do Not Leave The Flame Unattended. Please note that
allowing the flame to burn longer than 4 minutes may damage the wick stone.
- After 2 to 3 minutes blow out the flame. Your fragrance lamp is now operating. There will be no
flame, however the stone will be Hot. Do Not Touch! Replace the heavy decorative cap over
the wick stone. This will protect you from being accidentally burned, while helping to hold the
heat in the stone. Important Note: Never place the heavy decorative cap over the wick stone
while the flame is burning.
- It’s time to ENJOY! Leave the heavy decorative cap on for as long as you want the fragrance
released. It typically takes 30 to 45 minutes to fragrance an average size home. If you find the
fragrance is too strong, you may wish to dilute it with a portion of the neutral, or unscented
solution. This will reduce the intensity of the fragrance.
- When you wish to turn the lamp off, remove the heavy decorative cap with CAUTION. The cap
may be HOT. We recommend using a heat resistant glove or oven mitt. Place the solid snuffer
cap over the wick stone to extinguish the lamp. Be sure to leave the solid snuffer cap on to
keep any leftover fragrance from evaporating. Do not refill or empty your lamp until the wick
stone has cooled completely.
- Always Keep Your Snuffer Cap On Your Fragrance Lamp When It Is Not In Operation. Failing
to do so may cause unnecessary problems. The isopropyl alcohol in the solution will evaporate,
allowing certain components in the fragrance solution to build up in the wick stone. In addition,
the alcohol will draw moisture from the air which will dilute the fragrance solution and make it
difficult to light the wick stone.
- To add or change to a new fragrance, Always Allow the Wick Stone to Cool Completely Before
Touching. Place the heavy decorative cap and the solid snuffer cap beside your lamp on a
heat resistant surface. Allow the wick assembly to dry out if you are changing to a new fragrance.
To change fragrances, pour any remaining fragrance back into the original bottle. Using the
funnel, fill your lamp with the new fragrance, no more than 2/3 full, and continue following the
instructions listed above.
For an alternative method we recommend that you read the information in the “Wick Maintenance
Tip” section coming up next. There is a way of skipping the 20 to 30 minute wait period before
lighting your lamp by using an already saturated wick stone assembly.
Occasionally the wick stone may fail to light or stay hot. This is most often caused by the build-up
of carbon deposits from the essential oils and fragrances in the lamp solution. Fortunately, with
a little patience and care, these problems may be avoided or easily remedied. We recommend
a simple wick maintenance program to keep your wick stones healthy and you happy. Following
this program will also allow you to skip the 20 to 30 minute waiting period before lighting your lamp.
- Keep a supply of extra wick stone assemblies stored in an airtight container filled with either
91% isopropyl alcohol or neutral (unscented) lamp solution. These solutions will draw out the
carbon deposits that cause the wicks to clog.
- Rotate your wicks by using a fresh one from the container each time you use your lamp. This
will ELIMINATE the 20 to 30 minute waiting period before lighting your lamp as suggested by
the manufacturer. By using a fresh, saturated wick your lamp will be ready for immediate use.
When you are ready to use your lamp, carefully remove a wick assembly from the container.
Wipe gently with a paper towel to avoid drips on the fragrance lamp or in the area where you
are working. Place the wick in your lamp, making certain it is fully seated in the collar of the
lamp and follow the instructions as recommended above.
- Remember to always fill your lamp no more than 2/3 full. To further reduce the potential for a
clogged stone, we suggest filling your lamp with ONLY as much solution as you intend to use
at one time. Fragrance lamps use approximately 1/2 oz. of solution per hour, so fill the lamp
accordingly and allow it to burn away completely. This will avoid the carbon build-up that
may occur as the wick sits in the leftover solution when the lamp is not in use.
- When you have extinguished your lamp and the solid snuffer cap and wick stone have cooled
completely, remove the wick assembly and return it to the solution filled container. Pour any
leftover fragrance or neutral solution back into the original bottle.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- For adult use only. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
- Follow instructions carefully. Read ALL warning labels on fragrance bottles.
- Discontinue use if any irritation occurs.
- Light your fragrance lamp on a flat, stable surface only, away from flammable materials
- Do not place your lamp on wood or finished surfaces. The fragrance and neutral solutions
contain alcohol which may harm the finish.
- NEVER leave the open flame unattended.
- NEVER touch the wick stone after lighting, or while it is cooling after the lamp is extinguished.
- Blow out the flame BEFORE placing the heavy decorative cap on the lamp.
- Use caution when removing the heavy decorative cap. It may still be HOT. Place cap on
heat resistant surface until it has cooled completely.
- Lamp fragrances and the neutral solution are flammable. Store in a cool, dry place.
- Do not use lamp fragrances in any other scented applications such as potpourri, candles,
bath or skin products.
- Do not drink. If swallowed, seek medical assistance or contact a poison control center
immediately... 800-222-1222.
